Addie May: Born April 4, 2009

We have decided to start a blog in order to keep friends and family connected to Addie. We plan to upload lots of pictures here of her first week of life very soon. As for now, I will just give a little summary of her first week of life. As most of you know, Addie was born Saturday, April 4th at 9:30 in the morning via c-section. She came out crying and completely healthy-against what the doctor's had warned us could have happened. She spent the next 2 days in the NICU nursery, then 3 days in the progressive care nursery. Every time the doctor's said she needed to be able to do something (gain weight, get her jaundice numbers down, eat well), she did it. She has surprised everyone over and over again and ended up coming home with us on Thursday, April 9th (doctor's had originally said it would probably be about 2 weeks). Since being home, Addie has gained weight. She was born 4lbs. 4 oz., then lost some weight while in the hospital (down to 4lbs. 2.2 oz.). Yesterday, we had to take her in to the pediatrician to be weighed and she is up to 4lbs. 6.5 oz., so she is gaining quickly! We have been trying to keep Addie on the same schedule she was on in the hosoital, eating every 3 hours, but she has struggled with that at night some. We are hoping she will adjust to life here at home quickly and we will all start getting a little more sleep at night. That is the jist of Addie's first week of life...pictures to follow!
